Busting Myths about WordPress and Go Daddy Hosting
Recently, Go Daddy sponsored the Phoenix WordCamp for WordPress®. While we were there, we heard some surprising misconceptions about our hosting and WordPress.
One misconception we heard was, "Go Daddy hosting can't handle popular blogs without running slowly."
Not true. The fact is, our WordPress hosting is load-balanced across a grid of servers, rather than a single server like some of our competitors. That means your site stays fast—even if you get a spike in traffic.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the only misconception we heard. Let's take a look at the other myths and set the record straight:
Myth: You can't FTP into the WordPress directories when you install from Hosting Connections.
Fact: That was true several years ago, but it's not true anymore. You can FTP into any directory you want. Upload any theme, any plug-in…we're not going to stop you.
Myth: If you install from Hosting Connections, you have to wait for Go Daddy to make upgrade patches available.
Fact: C'mon. We're Go Daddy. We don't believe in delayed gratification. Once WordPress releases an update, you can upgrade when you log into your WordPress site's Dashboard.
Myth: Go Daddy doesn't provide any support for WordPress.
Fact: Our call center representatives take classroom-based and self-paced WordPress training and we have nearly 50 articles in our Help Center—including an 18-page getting started guide.
Myth: Go Daddy only caters to novice customers with domains, and isn't a good place for experienced bloggers.
Fact: We offer plenty of horsepower for experienced users as well as advanced functionality like SSH and cron jobs.
Myth: Go Daddy doesn't take an interest in the WordPress community.
Fact: We were the primary sponsor of the Phoenix WordCamp and provided live streaming video of the event. We routinely post on forums to provide assistance to WordPress users using Go Daddy hosting. We have a dedicated team listening—and responding—to our users so we stay plugged into not only the WordPress community, but also the community at large.
We had a great time at the Phoenix WordCamp and want to thank everyone for coming out. If you missed something, be sure to check out the highlights.
